Liz Treacy

Birth and Postpartum Doula

About

Hi everyone! I’m Liz. I’m a Brooklyn-based doula providing birth and postpartum support in the broader NYC area.Prior to pursuing birthwork, I have always worked in some form of client services. I worked for a decade with nonprofits and startups, and started my doula journey about a year after the birth of our delightful, curious baby Casper. I had been feeling an immense pull toward more local, hands-on work and a desire to help create the world I want our children to live in. My birth and postpartum experience was a catalyst for me and I completed my DONA Birth Doula Training this past February and am active within the Manhattan Birth mentorship program.I have always been drawn to stories and asking questions as a way to better understand our world. (Fun fact: I wrote my college thesis about representations of motherhood in American lit.) I love people-oriented work and love the process of making sense out of messiness and adapting toward what feels right.I love climbing, reading, and exploring nature with family and friends. My style is intuitive, grounded, open-minded, and adaptive. In my work, my values are learning, connection, support, and making meaning together. My pronouns are she/they.

SERVICES

Birth Doula Support

As your birth doula, I work in service of you and your path. I aim to protect and nurture your memory of your birth.Every birth is different, and my support will adjust as your needs emerge.Leading up to birth… we focus on what will help you feel most prepared. I will check in to see how you are really doing and can provide resources tailored to your learning style. We will schedule two prenatal sessions that will allow us to understand your birth process and preferences emotionally, physically, and logistically.During birth… we focus on continuously supporting you. I can support you with comfort measures, decision-making conversations, and help you find your rhythm and respond to changes. My goal is to be a grounded, consistent presence for you no matter how your birth unfolds. After birth… we focus on nurturing you. I can support you with newborn or lactation questions, light household tasks, and process together how your birth unfolded. We can also just sit and I will hold space for you in these early, tender days.

Daytime Postpartum Doula Support

My goal is to help you feel cared for and nurtured. Since each postpartum experience is unique, we will determine together what support you need most on a given day.My support can look like doing light household tasks, answering lactation questions, and helping you with your newborn. I can make you tea and be present with you, listen calmly and without judgement, and sit with whatever is bubbling up for you.

Birth Justice & Resources

We live in a world where birth justice matters.Pregnancy and birth outcomes are systemically worse for Black and Indigenous people, as well as immigrants, people with low incomes, and LGBTQIA+ people. Birth justice is a movement led by Black women to address these systemic inequalities, and is part of a broader reproductive justice framework.Access to birthwork is part of birth justice; I offer a sliding scale in service of making my birthwork more accessible. Please reach out if you are interested in a sliding scale spot.Below is a list of resources if you’d like to learn more about birth justice. If you have any other resource recommendations, please let me know!
